Student Code of Conduct and Academic Integrity

Gila Community College expects and requires its students to act with honesty, integrity, and respect in their educational pursuits. Students are responsible for understanding the College’s Academic Integrity Policy and adhering to the behavior standards listed. The policy in its entirety can be found at: Academic Integrity (Policy 6010) and Academic Integrity - Sanctions and Hearings (Procedure 6010-PR(1))

Plagiarism means presenting someone else’s ideas or words as one’s own without properly acknowledging the source. Plagiarism violates the College’s Academic Integrity Policy and students found in violation will be subject to the sanctions as outlined in policy. Students are entitled to receive instruction free from interference by other members of the class. An instructor may withdraw a student from a course when the student’s behavior disrupts the educational process.

Statement on Inclusion

Gila Community College is committed to fostering an environment characterized by respect, safety, and a sense of community among students and employees. Diversity and inclusion fosters a greater awareness and understanding of diverse populations and our collective complexity as a society. To do this requires our faculty and staff to reflect on issues related to academic, cultural, social, and racial diversity to provide our students the opportunity to learn from broad perspectives. Although historically race and gender have been symbols of diversity, GCC believes diversity includes additional categories such as, but not limited to, religion, sexual orientation, gender identity, disabilities, age, intellectual perspective, and nationality.

Accessibility Statement

In compliance with the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, Section 504, and the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990, professional disability specialists and support staff in the Counseling Department facilitate the academic support services and accommodations for qualified students with disabilities. Eligibility is based on qualifying disability documentation and assessment of individual need. Students who believe they have a need for disability accommodations are responsible for requesting accommodations and providing qualifying documentation to GCC’s Counseling Department. Every effort will be made to provide reasonable accommodations for qualified students. For more information, see: College Civil Rights and Sexual Harassment Policy (Policy 2020)

Title IX

Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972 states, “No person in the United States shall, on the basis of sex, be excluded from participation in, be denied benefits of, or be subject to discrimination under any educational program or activity receiving Federal financial aid.” Gila Community College is committed to providing a safe and positive learning, living, and working environment. Both Title IX and GCC policy make clear that sexual violence and harassment based on gender is prohibited. The College has a responsibility to ensure that students, faculty, staff, and visitors can enjoy the benefits and opportunities the College has to offer in an environment free from discrimination on the basis of gender, including sexual harassment, sexual misconduct, sexual assault, dating violence, domestic violence, stalking, bullying, and retaliation.

An individual who believes they have been subjected to sexual violence or harassed on the basis of sex can seek support, including counseling and academic support, from the College. If you or someone you know has been harassed on the basis of sex or sexually assaulted, you can find information and resources by contacting your local campus administration office.

Please note, as a mandated reporter, I am obligated to report any information I become aware of regarding alleged acts of discrimination, harassment, or sexual misconduct.

Harassment Prohibited

GCC policy prohibits harassment on the basis of race, sex, gender identity, age, religion, national origin, disability, sexual orientation, veteran status, and other protected classes. Violations of this policy are serious and may result in disciplinary action, including termination of employees or expulsion of students. Contact your professor or GCC’s Counseling Department if you are concerned about harassment of any kind.
